Tithes & Offerings. Legit Or Another Scam?

Over the years the theory, concept, idea, phenonenon really of “tithing” is one that has been argued frequently. Many nay sayer suggests that Pastors use these monies has profit and personal gains. Where as religious followers suggest that tithes and offerings bring blessings that are out of this world or super natural even.

So are tithes and offerings legit or scams? Maybe I can help:

1. How do the lights and so forth stay on in a church? On a scale of 1 to 10, how made would you be if you went to church and the air was out and we had to use candles. I remember as a little girl growing up on my island, when the electric companies had a power outage, we would have to have church vigil style with candle light. Not the most thrilling experince. The church was hot and stuffy. It was creepy and eerie. Would you like your local or home church to be like that? So if you don’t help who will?

2. There are crooks everywhere and in every industry. And in the christian or religious communities yes, there are scammers and scam artists. But does that make every Pastor, or Minister or what ever title the choose to call themselves a scammer? Here’s the thing, the reality, the 411… The term “Pastor” refers to a job title. And every job under the sun in this planet called earth is suppose to be for payment. Why should pastors be an exception? They give of themselves 24/7. Some as the expense of their families and relationships. To study, pray and interceed for their members. They are advisors, counselors, mentors and so much more. And it should be for free? If they are to be at your beck and call 24/7 when do they get time to provide for their families if you feel that they should work for free. Because I do not know too many Pastors with thriving congregations that work only on a Sunday.

3. Isn’t it funny that no one argues the idea of paying their taxes, but argue paying their tithes? It’s kind of the same prinicpal. If you are part and parcel of a country, the law is you pay your taxes or face possible jail time. If you are part and parcel of a particular faith, in this case christianity; the law (from God himself) is that you pay your tithes or face a possible curse on your increase or finances. The choice is up to you to believe or not believe. However, it does not diminish the fact.

4. The law of reciprocity. In business, personal development, religion, and almost any and every field, aspect of life, whatever you would like to call it. The fact remains that the law of giving and receiving is key. No one can argue or deny the fact, that it has a boomerang effect.

5. In a recent interview with a Yoga Instructor, she stated that part of her program is that she makes her clients give. “Give?” I said in awe. She responded, “yes, because it strengths and helps your heart health. The feeling that you get from giving is inexplicable.” I tend to agree. So why not give if there are possible health benefits? Now while these theories are still being studied, does it really hurt to try?
