How To Know When To Buy Brand Or Off Brand
Anyone who knows me, will describe me as the queen of frugal, yet one who loves quality items. I am a firm believer in the quality of certain brands. But my favorite store in the United States of America is Dollar Tree. LOL, I know right! I just love Dollar Tree. Not Family Dollar. Not Dollar General. Dollar Tree.
But the question still remains, how to I know when to buy brand of off brand?
Here’s what I came up with:
1. Detergent… Brand. Off brands tend to be “watered down”. They will clean the clothes, but the job tends to be inferior compared to certain reputable brands which have richer ingredients.
2. Dish Washing Liquid…Brand. The same applies here. I have found that the off brands maybe cheaper, but require a lot more dish washing liquid to get nice and foamy and/or break down tough grease stains.
3. Clothes… Off Brand. While the truth remains that the quality of certain brands remain out matched. The reality is for our everyday runs and so forth why do we need to wear name brands? The reality is, how many times do we actually wear the same outfit? That question would rightfully determine weather you invest inbrands because you want longer lasting items such as winter coats, or hoodies. Or off brand such as baby tees and jeans. In reality, especially in the western countries, seasons, trends and so forth change. Which means so do our clothes. But hey someon has to feed Goodwill and Salvation Army, so!
4. Food… Off Brand. While again, brand loyalty when it comes to food maybe from experience or passed down. The off brands such as the walmart store brand or kroger stoire brand version of items tend to be of the same quality to the big name brands. So why spend more? This proves to be true so much so that the stores find themselves marking the price tags of the brands lower than the off brand to increase sales. In that case, you would buy…brand offcourse! Duh!
5. Toys… Hmmm… Toys are a little harder to generalize on this one and here’s why. Barbie vs. her off brand competitors. While there are sooo many amazing dolls out there, Mattel’s formula remains unmatched for these timeless beauties. The off brand Barbies simply can not compare. However, finding accessories for Barbie can be found in the off brand department. With toys, it’s a matter of windown shopping or comparing first and buying whichever looks best, is safe (will not come a loose especially baby toys), and the cheapest. Afterall, effieciency is the goal.
