So You’re A Shopaholic? The Shopaholic’s Guide To Shopping And Saving.

So you're a shopaholic? Well, at least you are honest! All of us in some way, fashion or form are some kind of "holic."

So how can a shopaholic possibly satisfy their craving to shop and save at the same time?

Simple shopaholic's rehab. I have a friend so dear to my heart who is a shopaholic. More so, a design bags and shoe..aholic!!! Now I dare not say her name on here. well, mainly because she will kill me. So for the purposes of this study, we will call her Betsy. This is how the story goes...

Betsy loves Dooney & Bourke, Joy & Iman, and the works. And she did not mind paying for them in full upfront or making monthly installments. Now true, give that $20,000 bags exist in the world $100-$500 bags, are reasonable for genuine leather. However, looking at how much she made and to adhere to the 70-10-10-10 income rule. She was wayyy off. So one day, I was over at her house and for some reason, we ended up in her room. I was in utter shock to the number of bags that she owned. Now truth be told I have quite a few myself, she had nearly 150 bags of all colors shapes and sizes. I just could not believe my eyes.

"You need help!" I said to her. She found it amusing. So I told her about Shopaholics Anonymous, a program that can help her get on track. However, much like 90% of the people I talk to her first answer was no thank you. I decided to take her on a little journey to find out the aggregate worth in her closet. She agreed. I am too ashamed to say the amount out loud, but she was in shock herself. I could see from the look of shock on her face that she knew what had to be done. To add insult to injury, I showed her some of the same bags that she bought for the full price that I got on deals from lead merchants like HSN and Amazon. So she decided to join the program.

She wasted no time in using all of the features of the program. From calculating her net worth to budgeting, creating savings goals, a debt elimination plan and sooo much more. The funny thing is like Betsy sooo many people walk around barely making it, to feed egos, appearance, and addictions. And rightly so because unless you were a finance major in school or paid attention in Finance 101 at the very least. You are not educated to be able to handle things like our personal finances.

I am so proud of Betsy. She is now debt free and still enjoys her shopping sprees. A little too much for my liking. But now that she has been educated and has a system to support her, she makes wiser choices without compromising quality.
